At the Foul Line

I saw a copy of The Bagpipe, Covenant College's student newspaper. The front page article announced the hiring of Aaron as the new chaplain. I learned that the 6' 7" guy who comes "at you like a tidal wave" is nicknamed "Porkchop" from some incident at the foul line in a basketball game. Hhmm...I'll have to look into this a little more.

With the Lord

This email came from Westminster Theological Seminary's president, Peter Lillback, regarding the passing of Professor Al Groves last night.

Dear Fellow Believers In The Hope Of The Gospel:

Today at our Administrative Counsel Meeting and later at our Faculty Prayer Meeting, we prayed for Al, Libbie and their children, as well as for our Community. Knowing that the time was short before the Lord would call Al home, we prayed in the spirit of 1 Thess. 4:13, that we would not grieve like the those who have no hope.

Now the time has come for all of us to claim this truth as Al passed away sometime around 8:22 tonight at his home in the presence of his family and friends.

In order to honor our brother and to minister to one another at this moment of joy and sorrow, classes will be cancelled tomorrow (Tuesday February 6th). Please consult our WTS website for the ongoing scheduling of classes. You may also call our Academic Dean’s Office.

Plans are being made for a memorial service this Saturday at 2:00 at New Covenant Church not too far from Westminster’s campus.

As we all grieve, let us also minister to and pray for God’s continuing grace and peace on the Groves family and also to our brethren in Biblical Studies who have been such close colleagues of Al’s for so many years.

May the comfort of Christ promised in His Gospel of hope extend to you and to all in our community at this moment when the love of our Lord given in His Holy Word is our only sure foundation.

In His Service,

Pete Lillback

Pray for the attendees - ministers and ministry students - who are looking to sharpen their expository preaching skills.
