Email Hoax

I've changed the name actually sent, which is of someone who really is a friend of mine. Instead of following the directions, I emailed my friend, asking if she did have this sent. She has not. Somehow the scam artist got her email list and sent this in her name. Be aware of following the instructions of anything you were not expecting to receive, regardless of the name.

New Postings

New postings at the Capital Campaign blog.

The Money Keeps Coming

We can now call off the Capital Campaign. I can pay for everything myself. Not only have I won this week the Irish Lottery and received millions in inheritance money, I am about to become a business partner that will net me millions more:

Greetings My Dear,
I hope this letter will not upset you, as we have no previous discussion on this matter. I am Lucia Clark, daughter of Mr. Clark Degema; a Liberian former Director of Liberian Mining corporation who was Assassinated by the Rebels fighting former President Charles Taylor's Government in Oct.2002.

My mother died of heart attack, one year after my Father's death. I become orphan without anybody to care for me, even the Government which my father served and lost his life. My father unsure of Liberia Political future had secretly moved the sum of Five Million Five Hundred Thousand USA Dollars [$3.5Million] out of Liberia and deposited it in a Comecial Bank here in Cote D'Ivoire. That was at the period when Liberia was facing United Nation Embargoes.

I left Monrovia to live in Abidjan, Ivory Coast as political refugees In August 2003 when the President; Mr. Charles Taylor was forced into exile. It was unfortunate that the Government did not make any arrangement to cover me in their plan to move to exile. So because of the Rebels coming into Monrovia, I have no alternative than to escape as they may kill me as they killed my father.

I hereby request you to assist me by acting as my late father's foreign business partner so that you will help me to transfer the money from the Bank here to your foreign account for investment purposes. You will also help me to migrate to your country to continue my life as orphan and with your guidance; the money will be invested in profitable ventures. Kindly inform me what percentage of the total sum you wish to receive as compensation for rendering your help.

You should please treat this matter as confidential, as I would not like to expose the existence of the money at the Bank for security reasons ranging from my refugee status here and my father's status as civil servant. Kindly study my request carefully and send your response to me as soon as possible, thanks in advance for saving my life.

Phone to reach me: +227059.

Yours Sincerely,
Lucia Clark

Wow! I save a life and reap millions for doing it! Do you think Lucia Clark is a long lost relative?

Helpers Needed

We are planning two work days at the 315 Building to finish installing quarter-round and doing final painting touch ups. One will be next Saturday, February 23, and the second will be a Saturday in early March. David Kent will be installing the quarter-round on both days. Times will be determined this week.

We need about 3-4 volunteers to either help David with installation or caulking and touch up painting. I will need to know if the volunteers have previous painting or carpentry experience. This is not to discourage anyone. It will just help me determine what would be a good fit for anyone helping as far as tasks are concerned.

Anyone interested can contact Jane Cappeller at 215-704-4069 or by email, capjane@msn.com.

Tomorrow's Funeral

A reminder that Hannah Cohen's funeral is tomorrow at the church. Family visitation begins at 9:00 a.m.; the funeral service at 10:30 a.m.; burial at West Laurel Hill cemetary at 12:30. For those going to the gravesite, there will be an open lunch reception on the premises.

Childcare for ages up to 3 years of age is being provided by the Cresheim Valley Church during the funeral service.

The service will be webcast.

In case this affects the travel route of some attendees, traffic in the area of 15th and JFK and Market Street East will be restricted due to construction at 1234 Market. There will be a helicopter lift installing new AC units. The staging area is 15th and JFK thus that side of City Hall will be closed to Vehicle and Pedestrian traffic from about 8 AM to Noon.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts be sent to Spruce Hill Christian School with the designation "Hannah Shasia Cohen Memorial Scholarship Fund" 4115 Baltimore Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa 19104.

Valentine's Night

You may have thought Valentine's Day was over but it actually doesn't end until tonight when "The Four Loves" concert concludes.

Take your valentine to the concert tonight at the church. Go out for supper, then be at the church in time for the 7:30 start time. There are several fine restaurants within a three block walk. For more information on the concert, click here.

GOing, GOing, GOne!

Our Global Outreach office will be temporarily relocated during the months of March and April while Delancey 3West gets a makeover. No final decisions have been made concerning my temporary office location - I'm voting for the Bahamas, personally. I have friends over there who are gospel workers, and I've been feeling called to GO visit them...

In the meantime, we're hosting the best BOOK SALE ever (which is easy to say since we haven't done this before). We're offering extra books and materials from recent conferences or Bible school classes at bargain prices - $1, $2, $5, and $10. For some books, this represents a savings of +60%!

This best BOOK SALE ever begins on Sunday, February 24 in Reception Hall at the monthly GO luncheon. Take advantage of this opportunity to educate yourselves and your families about God's work in his world!

My Three Valentines

After 5

Attention, those of you who park at the Graduate parking lot. We still receive the $5 rate for weekends and weeknights, BUT for weeknights you must park AFTER 5:00 p.m. No discount rate if you park before that time.

Fastnacht

Hi Marion,

My family's bakery, Haegele's Bakery, in the Mayfair section of the Northeast was featured on the local news on Fastnacht Day because of the special Fastnacht doughnuts they make just once year. Click here for the video feature. My cousin, Glen, manages to witness about Jesus as he is shown turning the doughnuts. (He also mentions my dad, Erich Haegele.) I'm sending this along because it's a nice piece and also because Haegele's Bakery products are now available at the Reading Terminal Market at Dutch Country Meats, a purveyor of German foods. Tenth city dwellers might want to check it out.

Thanks,
Sharon Skeel

Surprise Inheritance!

This is incredible. Not only have I won the Irish Lottery, but I am the recipient of a multi-million dollar inheritance from someone whom I don't know:

"I wish to notify you that you were listed as a beneficiary to the total sum of £5,500,000.00GBP(Five million Five Hundred Thousand British Pounds) in the codicil and last testament of the deceased. Until his death he was a major share holder in big companies which include textile and construction companies. He was a very great philanthropist during his life time.We therefore reckoned that you can receive this funds as you are qualified by your name identity. We
request that you kindly forward any proof of identity of yours, your current telephone and fax numbers and forwarding address to enable us file necessary documents at our high court probate division for th release of this sum of money to you."
Attorney Martin Chitty.

Sorry everyone, but I am resigning now from the church so I can devote myself to my riches. I'll probably hear from the Capital Campaign Committee.

Sunday Evening Fellowship

This coming Sunday evening, February 17, we will hold the first of the Coffeehouses that we intend to have after Third Sunday evening communion services. This is a time for fellowship and an opportunity to interact with new attenders and visitors who are joining us for evening worship. Music this time will be sacred jazz by the Matt Monticchio Trio. Check out their website.

Valentine Caution

This is not what I was expecting to post first on Valentine's Day, but evidently is a real scam:

Be on the lookout for suspicious emails on Thursday. The FBI issued a warning yesterday that they expect spam e-mails spreading something called the Storm Worm to be sent on Valentines Day. The e-mail directs the recipient to click on a link to retrieve an electronic greeting card. Clicking the link installs "malware" and allows others to use your computer to do various bad things. For more info see the FBI press release. As always, be wary of any e-mail received from an unknown sender. Do not open any unsolicited e-mail and do not click on any links in emails unless they are from someone you know and trust.

A Review of the WBE

The following email came in from a participant of last week's Workshop on Biblical Expostion.

"I write simply to wholeheartedly express my agreement with the purpose and work of this organization (Charles Simeon Trust) and to pass along my heartfelt thanks for all that you have done in making this year's Workshop on Biblical Exposition in Philadelphia a God-honoring, Christ-exalting, Spirit-uplifting event! The Word of God was and continues to be held high in our times together! Praise God! Thank you all!

"I continue to appreciate the teaching/training times. I've been at these meetings in Philadelphia since they began in 2006. They have been an encouragement to me to thinking biblically about what I am preparing to preach and how I am going about doing this God-given calling. The workshop times continue to be one of my favorite as we together think critically about passages and present what God has taught us and is teaching us from His Word.

"Thank you once again for your help and faithfulness to preaching, teaching, and training in God's Word as together we seek to proclaim Christ to our world through His Church! I want to say once again that I have sincerely enjoyed the week, have gotten to know My awesome God better, to know His Word better, and to know my fellow-brothers better! May you be encouraged and strengthened and may Jesus Christ continue to be praised through this ministry!"

Please share this with everyone in Maranatha, Brooks/Vobrill Bible School class, or anyone who knew Hannah. This is for teens (and any adult leaders who may wish to come). Many are missing Hannah and would like a time to be together. So Wednesday night from 7-9 pm everyone is welcome to come to the church, Delancey 1West. Parking is available at the Graduate lot.

Cohen Visitation Time Change

Please note a time change for the viewing/family greeting on Saturday for Hannah Cohen. It will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Call for Actor

Rehearsals have begun for mereBreath Drama's new performance season, but a recent scheduling change has the ministry in need of one male performer. Please contact the Director at mereBreath@aol.com with interest or questions.

And Counting

Do you like to keep count? Check out http://www.worldometers.info/.

In the Driver's Seat

After your prayer tour, drop in at Fellowship Hall East and join the Bridge-Builders lunch. I will be speaking on the subject of "What Drives Us?"

Sunday Singing

Hymns for Sunday morning:

14 - New Songs of Celebration Render
1 - All People That on Earth Do Dwell
168 - I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art

The Living Church guest speaker is Frederick Hamman, the James Montgomery Boice Chair of Practical Theology at the Reformed Seminary in Provence, France. I just gave you a hint of what the three hymns have in common.

Sunday Praying Tours

Don't forget the “Praying Tours” immediately following the 11 am service this Sunday. These brief 30-minute gatherings will enable you to learn more about the campaign projects and lift them up in prayer. They will be held again March 2 and April 6. You can choose from one of six projects, each led by a pastoral staff person and elder and other knowledgeable person.

1. Facility Improvements - meet in the Catacombs
2. Digital organ - meet in the choir loft
3. Property Acquisition - meet at 18th Street Amen Pews
4. Elevator - meet at nursery off Reception Hall
5. Global Outreach - meet in 1West off Delancey lobby
6. Church Planting - meet in 2West, second floor of Delancey

Cresheim Valley

Cresheim Valley Church has received approval from the presbytery to "particularize." That means, they move from being a "mission church," to an official church, with their own government of elders. The ceremony is scheduled for the morning of May 11, Mother's Day. Seems an appropriate time for our daughter church to step forth on her own. I believe Phil Ryken will be preaching.

Licensed

Congratulations to Matthew Megill, who passed his licensure exams before the Philadelphia Presbytery last Saturday. Matt is physician preparing to go overseas as a medical worker under MTW. He sought licensure to teach the Scriptures as opportunity provides.

Welcome, Lydia!

David and Karen Walton are pleased to announce the arrival of Lydia Violet, born yesterday, February 11.

Hannah's Story

Hannah Shasia Cohen (April 10, 1991 - February 10, 2008)

Hannah gave this testimony two years ago at a Sparrows gathering:

Hello! Today, I want to tell you about a banner.

It is the most beautiful, royal banner in the world. It stretches from the beginning of time to the end of the world. The person holding this banner is God, and on it are four letters: L-O-V-E, Love. Song of Solomon 2:4 says, “His banner over me is love.” Everything I do, think, or say happens under the protection of this great banner. In other words, the story of my life takes place under the banner of God’s great love.

So, here goes my story…
