Marriage Seminar

Take opportunity to attend the Marriage Seminar September 25-26, "What Did You Expect?" Paul Tripp will be the presenter. You can register at Tenth's website. There is a cost - $20 per person if registering before September 13. Some have questioned charging Tenth members for the seminar. If this is a hardship, let us know what you can do and we will work with you. The seminar is not funded by our church budget. Perhaps we can do this in the future. This event will help us gauge the desire for such a seminar, as well as get an idea for budgeting. The church's reality right now is that we have no extra funds to use. The fees, by the way, go to cover the costs of publicity, materials, and other related expenses. Dr. Tripp is offering his services for free.

Timothy Shaw

Timothy Shaw, the Associate Music Director, will be stepping down from his position after August 16. You have been blessed by his skills on the organ and piano. He also directed the Women's Choir. We will miss his skill and good spirit. As Assistant Professor at PBU of Music Theory and Composition, he wants to devote more time to composing and teaching.

Carousel Slide Projector

From Sylvia Duggan:

I am looking for someone who owns a carousel slide projector and would be willing to lend it to me for a few weeks, or longer this fall. I have been asked to teach a class on archaeology to my kids homeschool co-op this coming semester. I would like to be able to share some of my personal field experience withe the kids, however, all of the images of the work I did in Honduras in the '80's and some other images from my museum years are all on slides. I have a carousel but not a projector. If any body has a projector that I could borrow for a while this fall I would really appreicate it. Please contact me at syduggan@verizon.net Thank you.

Good Morning, Philadelphians

Good Morning America will be broadcasting their weather forecasts live from Philadelphia on Wednesday morning. Sam Champion, Good Morning America's weather anchor will be in Philadelphia to talk to Mayor Nutter about our Big Belly trash compactors and recycling units that have been deployed across the city. GMA needs an audience to appear in the background of these live broadcasts. Please come to the Water Works Restaurant on Kelly Drive at 7am on Wednesday 29 July to appear on the show. Come out to support Philly on national TV!

Staff Transitions

Besides Jonathan's new church planting work, two other pastoral transitions will take place in September. Jonny McGreevy, who has been a Tenth intern for the last two years, will serve as Director of Maranatha. Carroll Wynne is very supportive of this, as are the Maranatha youth.

That frees Carroll up to give attention to parish ministry. We have been making changes in the parishes to improve the pastoral care given, but have lacked a pastor dedicated to the work. This is a natural fit for Carroll's skills, as anyone who has been visited by Carroll knows.

S. Philly Church Planting

For those of you not able to attend worship the last two Sundays, it has been announced that Jonathan Olsen has been approved by Session to plant a daughter church in South Philadelphia, Lord willing. He will remain as Minister for City Outreach through next summer, with the hope that he will be released completely for the mission church. We trust that worship services will begin in the fall of 2010. Please be in prayer for this work.
