Bruce on Sabbatical

Bruce McDowell begins his three month sabbatical tomorrow, November 19. Pray for his time to be productive and restorative. He will be working on a number of writing projects.

50/10

No, 50/10 is not a reference to Phil's vision. Rather it refers to the 50 years since Donald Grey Barnhouse's death and 10 years since that of James Montgomery Boice in 2010. There is 50/10 Committee working on ways to commemorate the ministries of these two senior ministers of Tenth. I want to alert you to two Sundays - June 13 commemorating Dr. Boice and November 21 commemorating Dr. Barnhouse.

One feature will be a book of devotions adapted from the Dr. Boice's commentary on Romans. Baker Books is publishing the book and plans to have a special order done for the church in May.

Sunday Book Signing

We are having a book signing at the church this Sunday following the 11:00 and 6:30 services. Phil Ryken, Paul Tripp, Paul Jones, and Linda Boice will be signing new works coming out, as well as old titles in Reception Hall. Linda is signing a new edition of Dr. Boice's The Christ of Christmas, and The Doctrinces of Grace. The books will be available for purchase.

Pray for Dr. Kuhlman

Our former coordinator for Schola Cantorum, Dr. Kris Kuhlman, would appreciate prayer. Last week her mother passed into glory -- a time of joy to be sure, but also of sorrow. The funeral is tomorrow morning in Chambersburg. Along with arranging the service, Kris will be overseeing the medical care for her father due to some recent medical issues.

So pray for her in the midst of grief and stress, joy and strength in the Lord.

Art and the Church: Hostility, History, and the Current Relationship

Is the church just under a delusion? If there is a God, doe he care about art? Do the two even have any place together? The relationship between the art world and the church is a tense one. Andy Crouch will be speaking about this relationship at UArts on Friday night. Come join us for a lecture and discussion.

Friday 11/20/09, 7:00 pm
Connelly Auditorium, Terra Building (Broad and Walnut Streets)

They'll be during the lunch hour (12:15-12:45); Paul Jones has lined up musicians; Paul Tripp will give a brief talk/devotional at each. They'll be Christmas themed, and we hope to get business people and neighbors. This is a great opportunity to invite neighbors, friends, and colleagues to the church.

Pastor Callings

Presbytery approved the call of Eric Larsen (associate minister at New Life Glenside) to become the Pastor of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Roxborough.

Vinny Tauriello was installed this past Sunday as the Lead Pastor at Northeast Mission. This is a church plant that is reaching out to several ethnic groups in the northeast of Philadelphia. Their building site is located at 3300 Tyson Avenue.

Tenth Members at Presbytery

This past Saturday's meeting of the Philadelphia Presbytery involved recognition of two Tenth members.

Congratulations to Jeff Jue, who passed his ordination exams and was approved to be ordained as a Teacher Elder. His ordination service is scheduled for February 24, 10:30 a.m., at Westminster Thelogical Seminary.

Congratulations to Brian Esterly, who was elected moderator of the presbytery.
