The Role of the Deacon

After Sunday evening's sermon on deacons in Acts 6 (The Magnificent Seven), I thought I'd share an article on the subject that I wrote in 1992 . Click here.

Bible Study Resources

A couple of weeks ago, I sent to the small group leaders a handful of internet resources for Bible study research. I give the list below plus another one sent to me. I've discovered a "creative" resource that one group has used, though I am not publicly endorsing this. The New Jersey group (where else?), which will go unnamed, (although they serve soup each week and the hosts like Wegman's) turned to Veggie Tales for their study of Esther.

Grocery Store Confusion

So, Ginger and I are standing bewildered in Wegman's in Cherry Hill. All we want is a small bite to eat but there is so much stuff! In come our guardian angels, Jim and Jean Harrington, who kindly lead us through the process and take us to a table. I've heard of missionaries talk about coming back to the states and being overwhelmed with the choices at a grocery store. Now I know how they feel.

Hagen in Rittenhouse

Noted author Carrie Hagen (and a Tenth member) will be appearing at Barnes and Noble on Rittenhouse Square Wednesday night from 6:30-8:00. Carrie's new book, We Is Got Him, will be featured. It is the story of the first ransom kidnapping in America, which happened to be in Germantown. Both Ginger and I will attest that it is a very interesting read.

Conference on the Spirits

While the Spirit led me to the CCDA Conference (ccda.org) to network with PCA and other mercy ministers, this is the spirits conference--offered at the same time--where I really wanted to go.

Conference on Justice and Mercy

At the Annual CCDA Conference, Indianapolis: 2,500 African, Asian, Anglo, European, Indian, Latino, and First Nation Christians serving our Lord in ministries of justice and mercy. The above picture was taken at the Unleavened Bread Cafe (@UBCafe), corner of Urban & Suburban. Left to right: Manny Hackman, Elease (Owner), Charlie (Helper), and David Apple.
